WHO WE ARE
Associação Faísca Voadora (pt. "flying spark") is a small organisation based in Almada (Portugal). Our goal is to promote interculturality by implementing local and intercultural projects in a creative way. We want our activities to be actively inclusive and accessible to any person regardless of their gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, nationality, age, ethnicity, financial situation, qualification, or any other such criteria.
WHAT WE DO
Our organisation was founded in 2018 and aims to:
- promote intercultural, artistic and educational activities of various kinds
propose innovative and experimental activities in the field of non-formal and informal education
promote access to culture, training, to all forms of learning processes for every person at any moment of their life and regardless of nationality, religion, economic situation, culture, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation or any other such criteria
promote the encounter between diverse cultures (whether local or national), conviviality beyond differences that may exist as well as mutual comprehension
act for human rights, promote concrete and daily actions for equality, against any form of discrimination and exclusion, for the expression and visibility of every person and in particular those belonging to excluded or marginalised communities.
On a local level, we organise events, meetings and creative workshops in cooperation with various local organisations.
On an international level, with partner organisations, we organise intercultural youth exchanges and training on various topics in different countries thanks to funding from the Erasmus+ Youth in Action programme and the French-German Youth Office.
We are also part of several international networks and a KA2 strategic partnerships project.
We particularly like to work with:
intercultural animation methods
comics and non-normative graphic representation
participatory forms of theatre and body expression
radio as an intercultural tool
music as an intergenerational and pedagogical tool
online animation methods
inclusion and diversity
gender and LGBTQI* questions

We are a small and ambitious association, and we believe that our strength lies in our networks, in our friendships and cooperation with people and partner organisations in our neighbourhood and around the world.
Quinta Maravilha is a conscious agriculture project with which we have a relationship based on solidarity and trust, we collaborate to provide healthy food during the projects, and we organise volunteer work and youth exchanges in a rural context.
Besides being allies of TransMissão - Associação Trans e Não-Binária, we are working together for intercultural events for, with and by the Trans and Non-Binary community of Portugal and other countries.
Outros Ângulos Produções uses video and other communication formats as tools of liberty, and we collaborate in various intercultural educational projects.
CENTRO DE CULTURA LIBERTÁRIA
The Centre for Libertarian Culture welcomes us for meetings, working sessions and occasional and regular activities.
SERVIÇO EDUCATIVO DA CASA DA CERCA
We have collaborated with the educational service of Casa da Cerca in the framework of the Boa Onda project, for the creation of a participatory art wall on the theme of ecology and plastic pollution in the oceans. In this context, we created the mural model with the youth exchange group Waves of Change in August 2019.
Schoolclash is a non-profit organisation with headquarters in Berlin (Germany) and Venlo (the Netherlands), and very close to us. We share a very similar vision of intercultural and inclusive work, and a passion for innovative methodologies. We have several projects together, and we also count on each other for support, to reflect together, to share resources... and talk about everything and nothing!
We are a non-profit association and a large part of our work is voluntary because we strongly believe in it.
On the other hand, we want to bet on the future of Faísca, and for this we need to think about our sustainability. Stabilising the organisation and structuring the work requires a lot of dedication, and money to guarantee some basic conditions: we have to have people working in a non-precarious way.
Right now, we depend on public funds. Thanks to a project that will last until July 2020, we have been able to cover part of the expenses and a part-time contract since July 2019. Our goal for 2020 is to turn it into a full-time contract and create a second part-time job. We would also like to be able to host paid internships.
Stabilising the team in this way will allow us to build, reflect, plan, learn from our mistakes, and simply breathe instead of running from one project to another in an attempt to stay on our feet. We also need to invest in some material to make some of our activities possible without having to run around asking for favours and borrowing material. Part of the support we ask for will also allow us to stop working from our homes and go to a local space that is readily available to us, however requires funding for basic investments such as the internet. This way we can make our work more accessible to the public, reach more young people and adults through our volunteer projects, and put various local groups in contact.
Any contribution is welcome! Thank you to all the people and organisations who have supported and will support us!
We will gladly send a personalised thank you card to anyone who donates, regardless of the amount. Just send us a message with the address!
